After my study I started a small indie company with two friends. We started off by making a little mobile games, one of these games that we ended up bringing to market was Doll Swap.
Doll Swap is a hyper casual mobile game where the player is tasked to sort Russian dolls from small to large, upon sorting all the dolls on screen they stack up and a set of larger dolls is revealed. This gives the player a sense of exploration as the dolls grow from ant-sized at the start of the game to taking up most of the planet later on. Once the player is comfortable with this concept they can use their in game currency to purchase additional challenge dolls that will appear in the game. These challenge dolls provide a variation to the sorting puzzles, such as locking dolls in place or giving extra points if they’re swapped in the last turn.
This was our first release as a team, I learned a lot about the process of publishing our game and making revenue. Including:
- Setting up banner as well as interstitial ads
- In app purchases to remove these ads and unlock another game mode
- Testing on different generations of apple and android devices
- Optimizing for mobile
- Searchability
- Publishing on the Google Play and IOs store
We tried several methods of income such as in game ads with a premium option, or just an 80 cent one time purchase. We also renamed the game later on from “Matry Swap!” to enhance searchability.
The game is available now on the Google Play Store!
