In Uber Stellar you fly a spaceship in a space tunnel, you avoid obstacles and try to get your passenger to their destination as fast as possible. The game play is intuitive yet challenging, aiming to replicate the addictive simplicity of games like Subway Surfer while adding a bit of flare in the shape of customer interactions.
For Uber Stellar we made a custom engine using OpenGL and C++, we worked on it for four weeks with a one other programmer and four artists. In addition the game has a little scripting engine using Lua allowing our designers/artists to tweak values and balance the gameplay.
This game was made along with one other programmer and four artists for a project at Saxion. My roles in this project included:
- Making the core architecture for the engine
- Collision detection / Importing colliders
- Player controls
- Exposing tweakable values to our artists in the form of Lua files
- Optimizing level loading
